Hiking Trails in Colorado's North Central Mountains
This region of Colorado is famous for its crown jewel, Rocky Mountain National Park. Because RMNP is such a popular destination, we've grouped hikes in (and into) the Park in its own categry. Beyond the park boundaries, there is ample territory to explore. From the meadowed hills and rocky outcroppings in the Red Feather Lakes area to the rugged wilderness areas along the Poudre River valley and the continental divide, the North-Central mountains of Colorado offer a variety of hiking options that will appeal to everyone from the family looking for an afternoon outing to the experienced mountaineer.
In addition to the Park, and thousand of acres of US Forest Service land, the north-central area includes seven designated wilderness areas: Cache La Poudre, Comanche Peak, Mount Zirkel, Neota, Never Summer, Rawah and Sarvis Creek wilderness areas.
This category includes the geographic areas of the North-Central Colorado mountains including the Continental Divide and Steamboat Springs area, and the Poudre and Big Thompson River Valleys. Rocky Mountain National Park trails are detailed in the Rocky Mountain National Park category.
